Overview
The Environmental Sciences Academy is designed to expand student’s awareness and knowledge of environmental circumstances in the world around them, as well as career opportunities in the industry. The program is designed to excite and challenge students as they are exposed to Environmental Science organizations and professions, learn how to think critically and problem solve, and apply hands-on science in real-world settings.

Students in the Academy follow a three-year academic curriculum that includes partnering with local agencies and completing community-based projects and initiatives. Students also have an opportunity to:
- Participate in college and industry tours, and hold internships
- Engage in supplemental programs designed to enhance leadership skills, expand environmental awareness, and deepen an overall engagement in the scientific community
- Listen to industry speakers and post secondary educators

Elective Courses:
- 10th Grade: Natural Resources / Building Sustainable Communities - Identify natural resources and
understand how they are produced and consumed.
- 11th Grade: Issues in Environmental Conservation and Environmental Justice – Understand the
importance of environmental restraint, environmental laws and policies regarding fair treatment for all
demographics.
- 12th Grade: Environmental Forensics and Sustainable Land Management – Identify, design, and
formulate concepts for scientific investigation.
The Academy’s Industry Advisory Board and other partners support the program by providing practice interviews, speakers, tours and internships for students and by working with Academies staff to develop curriculum.
