Overview
The Health Life Sciences Academy is a specialized program designed to expand student’s awareness and preparedness to pursue rewarding, in-demand career opportunities after high school. Academy students participate in specialized classes, and ‘real-life’ connections with Health and Life Sciences’ professionals and post-secondary educators.
Local business and community partners engage directly with the Health/Life Science Academy students on a number of programs and activities in order to best equip them for post high-school careers.

They include:
- Meeting professionals to learn about their experiences and advice.
- Health-Career Fairs or applying to Temple University’s Opportunities in Health Care Program to learn more about the vast array of careers and post-secondary educational requirements.
- Visits to hospitals and colleges.
- Mentoring opportunities.
- Certifications (e.g. Nurse Assistant, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
- Participating in leadership and community involvement - making presentations and educating other (i.e. research projects, health awareness or safety education).
- Scholarships
Business Advisory Board partners include representatives from: Thomas Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Lankenau Hospital, American Red Cross, American Diabetes Association, Hospital Workers Union 1199C, Life Science Career Alliance, and Independence Blue Cross
- The Health Technology curriculum includes:
- Human structure and function, disease disorders, general lab procedures and diagnostic testing, clinical procedures, medical terminology
